Marta in Chicago…moved to Michigan!

I haven’t posted in ages, but I’ve been busy! Busy moving, changing positions in my company, meeting new friends, spending time with family and trying to settle into a new slower paced life.

I have been cooking…on an electric stove. After six months, I think I may be getting the hang of it. I miss our old gas stove terribly. The good news is there’s a gas line in the basement that runs under the stove. Kitchen dreaming!

Coconut oil and curry – yum!

The decision to move happened quickly and quite unexpectedly, but here we are! We fell in love with our house the minute we set foot inside. It reminds us a lot of our apartments in Chicago – hardwood floors, plaster walls and plenty of character. There are things we’d always dreamed of having too – a washer and dryer, garage, a yard, a porch, gardening space…

We saw more snow this winter than I think either of us have seen in many years. Until recently, we’d forgotten that we have outdoor space to use. I’m dreaming of patio furniture, a grill and fresh vegetables from our own garden! One thing at a time though. We still have things to unpack and pictures to hang.

I wish I had written this creation down. Shaved Brussels sprouts, crumbled bacon, sliced shallot, Dijon mustard and some vinegar I think? Cooked in bacon fat of course. It was delicious.

I need to get back to sharing recipes soon. Hopefully summer will bring longer days and more free time. So, here I am. Back in Michigan sixteen years after I left. I guess I need to come up with a new blog name! Any suggestions?!?

Marinara for the freezer!
